Just because a person is well advanced in years doesn't mean he or she is more likely to get inflicted with hearing loss than a child. A person who experience hearing loss more often than not, loses their sense of hearing little by little until it is almost completely gone. Some people may also experience irreversible hearing impairment that cannot be remedied at all.

When you are experiencing hearing difficulties then having yourself checked with a specialist should be your top priority. The only way to determine the exact cause of the problem is by locating where exactly along the hearing pathway is the problem originating from. Diagnosing what the exact hearing problem is will determine the right hearing treatment for the patient.

When talking about hearing loss, a person may have a different kind of hearing disorder from the next. The hearing loss type depends heavily on where the affected area of the hearing pathway is. The type of hearing loss will determine if it is treatable by current medicinal science or is better left untouched.

People who cannot properly transmit sound from the outer and middle ear part to the inner ear is said to be suffering from conductive hearing loss. Conductive hearing loss covers all parts of sound transmission from the funneling of sound from the outer ear and into the inner ear. In most cases, this type of hearing loss can be successfully treated with medicine or surgery or at the least managed with hearing aids.

Sensorineural hearing loss is a hearing disorder that is very complex and is at present still untreatable by modern medicinal technology. This hearing disorder is the result of harm from the inner ears and the acoustice nerves which basically results in a person having nerve deafness. Insdie the cochlea are nerve endings, hair cells, fluid which all work in unison to process sound, but are also very fragile and easily damaged.

A medical term called central hearing loss is a hearing problem caused by the central nervous system. Having this type of abnormality puts you in a position where you cannot seem to understanding or connect sounds to things and words to speech. This type of disorder still has no cure and the only way to treat or remedy it is to control and make sure there is little noise happening at once.

Believe it or not, emotional problems and psychological problems can also take a person's hearing away, this condition is called functional hearing loss. People who have this condition just don't seem to respond, yet are able to hear perfectly well. Some doctors mistake this condition to something else and waste precious medication on the patient to no avail.

When you have both sensorineural and conductive hearing loss together in an ear, then this person has what is called mixed hearing loss. In any case, the conductive hearing impairment is still the one that is more easily treated. There is still not much that can be done with the sensorineural problem.

As said, hearing loss is a very big issue as it really can affect anyone at any time and it can literally change a person?s lifestyle. No one can really say when a medicine can be made for hearing impairment. If you are not getting full body checkups once a year, then maybe it is time you should.
