No, even former First Lady, Hillary Clinton, is not immune from dangerous Malware scams. Youd think the Senator from New Yorks staff would be computer savvy enough to avoid attack of the Malware, but it seems they are not. According to Symantec, Mrs. Clinton is only the most recent target of Malware. Millions of everyday people run the risk of intercepting this type of malicious and annoying scam. The Clinton campaign was impacted by an insidious malware scam when it was attached to a misleading email and distributed around the world. The subject line of the email was Hillary Clinton Full Video. Mr. Douglas Bowers, of Symantec (internet security) revealed they had expected something like this to happen because of the unprecedented interest in this years presidential race. Well, he was right; it did happen. The surprising thing is, so far only Ron Paul and the former First Lady have been targeted. As the general election approaches, other candidates staffs may be well-advised to place additional layers of security around their operating systems. Most people dont even know what the term malware means, so how can they be expected to adequately protect their computer and files from it? Malware is a type of computer program or computer code which is developed solely to produce annoying pop-up ads, innumerable amounts of spam and disseminate adware and spyware. Whats more, it can be dangerous to the entire operating system. With the popularity of this campaign it is fortunate, and somewhat surprising, that only Ron Paul and Sen. Clinton have been targets of Malware thus far. Spam expert from Symantec, Mr. Douglas Bowers, stated they were concerned this might happen due to the interest in the election this season. Per Mr. Bowers We predicted there would be socially-engineered spam for the election season and now its arrived. We are seeing a low volume of this now, but we expect it to increase as we approach the election and to use other candidates. Once opened, users were asked to click on a link which resembled a link to a Google search page so far, so good. This is precisely where the problems begin; when the link is activated the malware installs itself onto the operating system it is not a link to Google at all. Once activated, the malware begins to weave its web of deceit quickly through adware, spyware, Trojan horses, rootkits and computer viruses. Users can be bombarded, in a matter of minutes, with pop-up-ads (many of them, appearing one after another) and copious emails. Now in place, the malware scam is in full-swing. The computer owner will be inundated with massive amounts of unwanted spam, including pop-up ads by the dozen. At the very least, this bombardment will be irritating. At worst, the computer may be slowed down, shut-off or severely damaged. Investing in security software for your computer is worth doing. The other thing computer users can do is to exercise caution, particularly when opening email. If possible, do not open ANY email that comes from an unknown source. While nothing is foolproof just yet, doing these two things will greatly enhance your chances of avoiding an attack of a malware scam.
